The Hundred Hills

Unique Geological Phenomenon: This is the only place in Europe where such a high concentration of ancient underwater reefs of the Mediterranean Sea can be found — a Tertiary water basin that covered the territory of present-day Moldova around 20 million years ago.

Impressive Size: It stretches over 8 km in length and 2.3–1.7 km in width, covering an area of approximately 1,600 hectares.

Varied Elevations: The mounds range in height from 1 to 30 meters. The tallest one, called Movila Țiganului, reaches 60 meters.

Diverse Landforms: The landscape features cornices, ridges, depressions, isolated or chain-like mounds, terraces, funnels, steps, knolls, and ravines — all packed into a small area, giving the terrain an unusual, bizarre, almost lunar appearance.
