Moldova to Host the World Congress of Vine and Wine for the First Time
From June 16 to 20, 2025, Chișinău will host the 46th World Congress of Vine and Wine, organized by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV). The event will gather around 300 experts, winemakers, and policymakers from 51 countries. This is the first time that in Moldova, the country with the largest vineyard area in the world relative to its population (4 hectares per 100 people), this prestigious meeting is being held.
The event will focus on the theme: “Shaping the Future of Wine: Embracing Resilience, Enhancing Value, Fostering Innovation.” The agenda will include scientific meetings addressing current challenges in the wine sector and identifying relevant solutions, as well as scientific presentations on viticulture and winemaking in the Republic of Moldova.
Thus, the event will serve as a true intellectual hub, where over 300 globally significant topics related to the wine sector will be discussed.
During the congress, four discussion panels will be held, featuring experts and researchers:
-
Viticulture: Resilient viticultural practices for sustainable ecosystems;
-
Oenology: Adaptive and innovative technologies in sustainable oenology;
-
Economy & Law: Enhancing value – enabling value chains and resilient business models;
-
Safety & Health: Nutrition and health – sharing, caring, and well-being.
The congress will highlight Moldova’s growing role in the global wine industry. Participants will visit the country’s leading wineries and discuss the future of winemaking in the context of sustainability and innovation.
The event is organized by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and the National Office of Vine and Wine (ONVV). The Republic of Moldova has been a member of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine since April 3, 2001, becoming the first CIS country to join the OIV. In 2024, the International Organisation of Vine and Wine marked its 100th anniversary, and the congress in Moldova opens the organization’s second century of activity.
