Soroca Fortress

Soroca Fortress

Soroca Fortress is one of the most valuable medieval monuments in the Republic of Moldova, located on the banks of the Dniester River in the town of Soroca. Originally built of wood by Stephen the Great in the 15th century and later rebuilt in stone by Petru Rareș in the 16th century, the fortress stands out for its perfectly circular design and five defensive towers. With walls over 3 meters thick and a height of 21 meters, it played a key strategic role in Moldova’s defense. Recently restored with support from the European Union, the fortress is now a major tourist attraction, open to the public and equipped with modern visitor facilities.
