Cultural-Natural Reservation “Old Orhei”

Old Orhei is a remarkable archaeological and cultural complex located in central Moldova, about 45 minutes from Chișinău, in the village of Butuceni, Orhei District. It is an emblematic site that combines history, nature, and spirituality, being part of the Cultural-Natural Reservation “Old Orhei”.

The complex is situated on a rocky promontory along the Răut River, offering spectacular views. Visitors can explore:

• The rock-hewn monastery in Butuceni, still active today, with churches carved into the cliffs.

• The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, built in 1636, located on a hill with a panoramic view.

• The Tatar Baths, remnants of medieval bathhouses mentioned in documents from the 16th–17th centuries.

• Grottos and monastic cells, used as places of worship and spiritual retreat.
