Hâncu Monastery
Hâncu Monastery is one of the most important and beautiful Orthodox monasteries in the Republic of Moldova, located in the forest, in Nisporeni district. It was founded in 1678 by the Moldovan boyar Mihalcea Hâncu, at the request of his daughter who chose the monastic life. Originally a convent for nuns, it was later turned into a monastery for monks during the Russian and Soviet periods, but after 1990 it became a nunnery again. The monastic complex includes two churches — an old stone one and a new, impressive one built in traditional Moldovan style. The monastery is a significant spiritual and tourist center, attracting pilgrims and visitors with its natural beauty, forest tranquility, and deep atmosphere of prayer.
