Study visit to the Destination Management Organization of Piatra-Neamț, Romania

Between June 17–20, representatives of the Ministry of Culture, the National Tourism Office, and the associative sector are on a study visit to the Destination Management Organization (DMO) of Piatra-Neamț, Romania.
The purpose of the visit is to identify best practices in tourism management and sustainable destination development, by analyzing how the Piatra-Neamț DMO collaborates with local authorities, the private sector, and the local community.
It also includes examining strategic tourism development models for the medium and long term that are adapted to market needs, local potential, and the destination’s economic, social, and environmental development goals.
The visit aims to identify barriers and gaps in the management and development of DMOs in order to anticipate and correct dysfunctions early in the creation process.
Another objective is to establish collaborative partnerships by identifying opportunities to develop and implement joint projects, and to create cross-border tourism products — from shared cultural and historical routes to ecological and gastronomic tourism.
It is worth noting that the Piatra-Neamț DMO was created at the local level in 2023 and includes 29 members from the public, associative, and private sectors.
In the Republic of Moldova, two DMOs are currently undergoing institutionalization: Lunca Prutului and Plaiul Codrilor. These are being developed within the framework of Local Action Groups (LAGs). Currently, a third DMO pilot is under consideration to lay the foundation for the development of sustainable and resilient tourism destinations in the country.
